Honolulu: University of Hawaii Press, Masao Abe's Buddhism and Interfaith Dialogue, described by the publisher as "part one of a two-volume sequel to Zen and Western Thought," contains a variety of essays and papers previously published in journals or presented at lectures and conferences. In the midst of this variety a central question is repeatedly asked: "How can we fmd a common spiritual basis in this pluralistic world without marring the unique characteristics of each ofthe cultural and spiritual traditions? Abe hopes to both affirm the two religious traditions and, at the same time, avoid any vicious relativism or self-defeating skepticism by fmding the spiritual basis common to them both.

Christian and Buddhist approach to religious exclusivity. Do interfaith scholars have it right? Buddhist-Christian interfaith scholars 1 are quick to denounce what they perceive as religious exclusivity. So when it comes to the major views on just how true and salvific the religions can be, it is no surprise that Exclusivism is ruled out automatically. What is surprising is how inevitable it is that when Buddhist-Christian interfaith scholars commit to any view - whether Inclusivism, Pluralism, or Relativism - they themselves end up committing the sin of exclusivity.

This paper presents data from interviews with senior Catholic and Buddhist nuns living in the United States who participated in an interreligious dialogue. We focus on how Catholic nuns develop, appropriate, and adapt Buddhist forms and ideas in their daily religious practices and how Buddhist nuns respond. We describe and analyze three distinct discursive constructions of Buddhism that Catholic and Buddhist nuns draw upon, and discuss the significance of these constructions for members of both traditions as they think about their groups' futures. This material contributes to research on religious syncretism, appropriation, and the hybrid nature of religious traditions in practice. The project will gather youth workers and youth leaders from Program and Partner countries to explore the potential for interreligious activities in youth work. In the emerging global and multicultural world, the constructive and dialogical character of interreligious relations are of utmost importance. The necessity of dialogue between religions is becoming one of the typical features of the contemporary era. This leads to tensions, discrimination, and violence based on religious issues. The proposed training course would like to gather youth workers and youth leaders from Programme and EaP countries to explore the potential for inter-religious activities in youth work settings. At the Crossroads of Civilisations: Interreligious Dialogue in Youth Work

Interfaith dialogue refers to cooperative, constructive, and positive interaction between people of different religious traditions i. It is distinct from syncretism or alternative religion, in that dialogue often involves promoting understanding between different religions or beliefs to increase acceptance of others, rather than to synthesize new beliefs. The Archdiocese of Chicago 's Office for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs defines "the difference between ecumenical, interfaith, and interreligious relations", as follows:. Some interfaith dialogues have more recently adopted the name interbelief dialogue , [2] [3] [4] while other proponents have proposed the term interpath dialogue , to avoid implicitly excluding atheists, agnostics, humanists, and others with no religious faith but with ethical or philosophical beliefs, as well as to be more accurate concerning many world religions that do not place the same emphasis on "faith" as do some Western religions.

Interreligious dialogue is best defined as intentional encounter and interaction among members of different religions as members of different religions. There is quite a variety of types of interreligious dialogue, with no overall agreement about what these types are: official or institutional dialogue between or among elites chosen by their religions as official representatives, parliamentary-style dialogue, verbal dialogue, intervisitation, spiritual dialogue, practical dialogue, and internal dialogue. This article traces the history of interreligious dialogue and discusses its contemporary importance and dynamics, as well as principles and theory. It uses the dialogue between Jews and Christians to exemplify intercommunity dialogue and the dialogue between Buddhists and Christians to exemplify dialogue for personal growth.

Vesakh is the most important feast for Buddhists: it commemorates the main events in the life of Buddha. This year the feast will be celebrated in the majority of countries of Buddhist tradition on 19 May.
