And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there. And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons.
And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years. We learn throughout the entire book of Ruth that she was the one who stayed loyal to Naomi. Orpah had left her to do her own thing, but Ruth was there through everything. Ruth was without a doubt a woman of integrity. The Book of Ruth was probably at one time an appendix to the Book of Judges.
It follows Judges in the modern Bible canon, and is like a ray of fresh light after the dark periods depicted in the prior book, showing that even in the midst of horror, the simple love story can be acted out. Ruth Elimelech took his family out of the land of Israel due to a famine.
