Exploration and production of groundwater, a vital and precious resource, is a challenging task in hard rock, which exhibits inherent heterogeneity.

This study aims to investigate the shallow and deeper section to delineate the groundwater aquifer and structural elements which dissect the study area. Added, the study aims to define the depth to a basaltic body and evaluate the quality of groundwater through interpretation of the geophysical, geological and boreholes data. Geophysical data have been measured, processed and interpreted in two- and three dimensions using special codes prepared by authors and commercial software.

Groundwater is the water present beneath Earth 's surface in soil pore spaces and in the fractures of rock formations. A unit of rock or an unconsolidated deposit is called an aquifer when it can yield a usable quantity of water. The depth at which soil pore spaces or fractures and voids in rock become completely saturated with water is called the water table. Groundwater is recharged from the surface; it may discharge from the surface naturally at springs and seeps , and can form oases or wetlands.

Surface Geophysical Exploration Methods

Geophysical methods can be used for cost-effective site characterization and monitoring by observing variations in the electrical, magnetic, and seismic properties of subsurface materials. Common data collection approaches include borehole, surface, and cross borehole geophysics. Analysis of surface and cross borehole geophysical data produces images or spatially distributed models of subsurface properties.
